Job Description
Any traveler not currently in possession of an active State of HI license must apply upon acceptance of offer. Candidate must have Hawaii License by start of assignment.This is an 34 bed combined post surgical(adults) and pediatric unit.General Job duties. Types of procedures required.Standard RPN III duties/skills. Knowledgeable in surgical pre/postoperative care; some Pediatric nursing.Equipment utilized in the unit/dept.Vital signs machines; IV & PCA pumps; WOWS/EMR charting; Pyxis. Also need to know how to use orthopedic devices like CPM, SCDs, as well as other surgical equipment like NGT/CT suction equipment, foley, diabetic machines, etc.Required skills and minimum years of experience.Standard RPN III skills (at least 1-2 yrs. experience) in order to be proficient in duties and role as a registered nurse; strong work experience in pre/postoperative nursing (i.e. abdominal surgeries, like lap chole/appy, resections, and mastectomies, thyroidectomies, chest tubes, different drainages, etc. Also, orthopedic nursing, like hip/shoulder arthroplasties, etc. If possible traveler who has experience in pediatric nursing.Specific licensures and certifications/registrations required.REQUIRED: BLS. ACLS. PALS and PEARS, strongly suggested.Shift or schedule requirements.Surg/Peds is a 8 to 12 hr shift unit. Our grid for a full unit is 3 RNs. No 'on call' requirement. Must be able to work Shifts/Weekends. Days/Eves shifts (M-F) have a NM/CC. Other shifts, like Nights/Weekends have an assigned charge nurse.Floating to other units/departments.Surg/Peds RNs are expected to float, if needed. Some units are: Medical, ER, pull nurse.Bed size/number of rooms for this unit/dept.Max 34 bed unit.Nurse to patient ratio of this unit.1 RN to 6 patients.Dress Code:Regular nursing uniforms. Clean/Neat with covered shoes. Staff is assigned a 'egg' monitor as well as name badge, which is considered dress code. No excessive jewelry; No perfume/strong cologne. Finger nails should be short.RN Travelers' orientation covers HR, EMR education with Pyxis, as well as other nursing education. RN Travelers also orient on Surg/Peds Unit & other units, which the RN may float to.
