Job Description

Looking for an RCIS or Cath Lab Tech agent; 10 hour shifts; 7-12 days of call per month; call every 3rd to 4th weekend (call response time is 30 minutes); potential holiday callRequirements - current BLS, current ACLSPreferred - Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) credential thru Cardiovascular Credentialing International1)    Performs duties for diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization and other Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and   Electrophysiology procedures in a professional manner with minimal supervision and demonstrating responsible, independent judgment.a)    Under direction of supervising physician and department management, assists in patient care in pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and post-procedure environment, and may function in role of:i)       scrub/assistant in the sterile field (for equipment set-up and assisting physician in procedure),ii)     control room monitoring or monitoring patients in pre/post-procedure environment (with current status in Advanced Cardiac Life Support).(1)  Includes: vascular access site(s) preparation for procedure, placement of peripheral intravenous access, obtaining patient vital signs, set-up of hemodynamic monitoring equipment, monitoring of patient receiving moderate (conscious) sedation, operating hemodynamic monitoring equipment and recording of hemodynamic information, collection and analysis of arterial and venous blood samples, and operation of equipment within the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, and obtaining arterial hemostasis following procedure.iii)    can function as the second circulator in the procedure room.(1)  Procedures performed in Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory would include, but not necessarily be limited to: diagnostic and interventional coronary artery catheterization; diagnostic left heart catheterization; right heart/pulmonary artery catheterization; temporary or permanent transvenous pacemakers; pericardiocentesis; placement and operation of intra-aortic balloon pump; impella, transesophageal echocardiograms; elective and emergent electrical cardioversion; central venous line placement, vascular access device placement, venous ablations, peripheral angiograms and peripheral interventions.   (a)  Procedures performed in the Electrophysiology Suite, with which the RCIS may also be involved, may include, but not necessarily be limited to: peripheral arterial or venous diagnostic or interventional procedures; permanent pacemaker/ICD/CRT implantation; implanted loop recorder placement; central venous line placement; vascular access device placement.(b)  RCIS/Tech will not administer any medications or blood products. 2)    Participates in the preparation of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory; prepares and operates all equipment correctly. Completes or assures completion of daily checks for presence and function of emergency equipment (Code Cart, temporary transvenous pacemaker, intra-aortic balloon pump, etc., as listed on -Daily Checks' list in Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory). 3)    Demonstrates appropriate radiation safety practices, and promotes radiation safety of the patient and staff, applying practices consistent with As Low As Reasonably Achievable' (ALARA) standards. 4)    Adheres to Standard Precautions (Body Substance Isolation) precautions. 5)    Assesses equipment for proper function prior to use and documents defective device. Removes defective device from service and reports equipment malfunctions promptly to supervisor. 6)    Participates in ordering supplies maintaining adequate inventory of supplies and equipment. 7)    Performs routine maintenance of radiological equipment and monitors radiation safety. Performs necessary quality control procedures and participates, as required, in safety checks on lead aprons, lead glasses, thyroid shields, and patient monitoring equipment. Documents defective devices, removes from service, and reports to supervisor. 8)    Functions as cardiology educator for patients, co-workers, the community, other Mount Nittany Medical Center departments, and physicians' offices in a manner that positively markets and promotes services of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, and promotes cardiovascular health and wellness
