Job Description
Medical Solutions Pre-Screens, if clinical recommends AUTO OFFER **LEVEL I TRAUMA EXPERIENCE REQUIRED** candidate is required to pass DYS exam PRIOR to accept Unit MICU # Beds 40 beds- is in same are as SICU and TICU. Entire area has 120 beds. Nurse:Patient Ratios 1:1-2 Required Certifications (i.e., BLS, ACLS?) BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Common diagnoses/Types of patients Sepsis, GI Bleed, DKA, RotaProne Therapy, Heat Stroke, OD (most are intubated and have a sitter when extubated), Correction patients (shackled and guarded) Experience or 'Must have' skills 2 years ICU experience required. Must have experience in 600+ bed teaching facility Are RNs required to titrate drips? Common titratable &/or set rate drips Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? Charge Nurse- Does not take patients Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios Hospitalist or Intensivist in house Intensivist 24/7 RT in ICU 24/7 RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, BiPap, etc) Vents- Cervo I, Jets, Oscilators Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? RNs required to read and interpret their own strips Weekend Requirements 3 weekend shifts every 4 weeks Holiday Requirements Work in with core staff rotation Floating Requirements ICU Travelers will be required to float amongst all ICU areas, as well as any MedSurg/Tele units. The expectation is not that they specialize in everything & take the most acute patients in every area, but rather that they can function independently when floated to an outside area. Travelers must understand that that they will be floated & will not have an opportunity to refuse, stating that they 'don't do' or 'won't do' in regards to floating. CNM must document traveler's understanding of this on the prescreen interview form. Also could be asked to float to St. Joseph Westgate campus Unit/Department specific orientation 2 shifts on the floor Additional Notes Bedside Procedures: Bronchs, Trachs, Hemodialysis Cath placements Unit SICU # Beds 40 beds- is in same are as MICU and TICU. Entire area has 120 beds. Nurse:Patient Ratios 1:1-2 Required Certifications (i.e., BLS, ACLS?) BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Common diagnoses/Types of patients Recover vented patients from the OR, lung transplants (most transplant cases), liver transplant, kidney transplant, severe back surgeries, whipple Experience or 'Must have' skills 2 years ICU experience required. Must have experience in 600+ bed teaching facility Are RNs required to titrate drips? Common titratable &/or set rate drips Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? Charge Nurse- Does not take patients Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios Hospitalist or Intensivist in house Intensivist 24/7 RT in ICU 24/7 RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, BiPap, etc) Vents- Cervo I, Jets, Oscilators Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? RNs required to read and interpret their own strips Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) 12 hour shifts 7-7 Weekend Requirements 3 weekend shifts every 4 weeks Holiday Requirements Work in with core staff rotation Is there a call or standby requirement? Floating Requirements ICU Travelers will be required to float amongst all ICU areas, as well as any MedSurg/Tele units. BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Common diagnoses/Types of patients All Trauma patients, MVAs, GSW, closed head injuries, ortho trauma, etc. Experience or 'Must have' skills 2 years ICU experience required. Must have experience in 600+ bed teaching facility Are RNs required to titrate drips? Common titratable &/or set rate drips Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment?
