TRAVEL SA OR

• The Certified Surgical Assistant, is the person who scrubs in at the field and works as the surgeons other hand.  
• They must have a CERTIFICATE/DEGREE in SURGICAL ASSISTING  from an accredited school.  
• The certification for this is usually from the NBSTA, National Board of Surgical Technologists and Surgical Assistants, which comes when they sit for and pass their exam. 
•  In Virginia, they also have to have a VIRGINA LICENSE, issued from the VDH.  
• IF they have applied for one and are waiting on final approval, we are still interested in interviewing them.  
• RNFA is an equivalent position, must also have passed a First Assistant program and I believe  their RN license is equivalent to the Virginia licensing requirement.  
• Some SAs/RNFAs, may also have a Surgical Scrub Technologist degree, as well because a lot of them were techs prior to having their training as an assistant.  However, they MUST have an ASSISTANT degree and a Virginia license to qualify for this position.

Unit Information: OR Location: CJW Johnston-Willis Address: 1401 Johnston-Willis Drive, Richmond, VA 23235 Floor: 1st Building: Main Hospital   General Information Tell us about the unit(s): •         Number of Beds – 16 Operating rooms •         Number of Staff – we staff one team of RN, SA, surgical tech per OR room running on day shift and taper on evenings. Call on weekends and nights •         Type of staff: o    Day Shift – day shift (16 RN’s, 16 SA’s, and 16 surgical techs) evening shift (tapered to 4 teams from 3-5, 2 teams from 5-7 and 1 team from 7-11p. Call starts for additional 2 teams at 3pm. o    Night Shift -  call only •         Patient Ratios – 1-1 •         Type of equipment – OR equipment. Robotics, neurosurgery, general, plastics, urology, ortho etc. •         EMR - Meditech Typical hiring profile Skill Set Most recruited for:    Must have:  candidates without these skills will not be considered for the role. •         Robotic experience •         Ortho experience Preferred or nice to have:  candidates with these skills will be considered first. •          Neurosurgical experience List typical procedures performed on unit(s):   •           All except for transplant and cardiac surgery Best personality Fit: •          Team player is always best REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS: •         Certified Tech will take preference Floating Areas: •         none Dress Code: •         Scrub Color/Attire -  navy   Weekends and On call(if any) •         Call rotation on average 2 call shifts per week (includes weekday night and weekend primary and backup)
