Department: Emergency Room (RN) •Certifications Required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC* PROFILE REVIEW+MANAGER INTERVIEW - Trauma Level: Level II - # of Beds/Trauma Bays: 21 including fast track - Do you have a Fast Track?:verticle flow has chairs, patients if stable go back to waiting room, and MD has orders in. Travelers utilized in verticle flow area - Do you have a separate Triage area?: yes, vitals etc. Usually core staff to do triage, travelers, after being there awhile, could take triage competencies to triage, if have previous experience. - Do you have a separate holding area in the ER or are ER holds intermixed w/in the ER?ER RN to take boarding patients, if stable go to vertical flow or more unstable keep close to nurses station. - Do you have separate Psych/seclusion rooms? 1 psych room, cameras in room - Is Security in-house 24/7? Housed in the ER? Security office is in the ER, and in house 24/7 - On average, how many patients do you treat in the ER/day? 50-60/ day, mostly ESI Level 3, some 4, and rarely 1 - Nurse:Patient Ratios: 1:3-4 based on acuity, maybe 5 (if boarding and grouped together) - Common diagnoses/Types of patients: peds to geriatrics, traumas- allow travelers to take, CAH transfers, Stroke, STEMI, SOB, abdominal pain, etc. - Experience or 'Must have' skills:Prefer previous travel experience but open to first time travelers. - Common drips: vasopressors, heparin, antiarrhythmics, (critical care drips for ICU holds, would be a 1:1) - ED Physician &/or Mid-Levels staffed? Generally how many are on at a time? All MDs no mid levels, here 24/7, 1 MD overnight until 6 am and 3 MDs during busiest times - Is there a Charge Nurse on each shift? Does the charge nurse take an assignment?: Charge Nurse- outside of staffing, manages throughput of department and helping hand - Are there nurse aids/EMT/Paramedics/Patient Sitters on each shift? Ratios? Duties?: 1 ED tech (usually), up to 2 depending on how busy they are. Duties include: EKGS, patient care, vitals, blood glucose etc. - Is RT in the ER 24/7? Do they do ABGs, breathing Tx, & EKGs?RT comes as soon as needed, not physically in the department 24/7 but in house - RT Equipment (Vents, Cpap, BiPap, High Flow, etc.) Are RNs required to do anything with these besides trouble shoot? RT to handle the equipment, and breathing treatments - Do you have Tele/Monitor Techs in the ER? Tele in main nurses station, no techs. RN to read and interpret strips, MD to verify. - X-Ray or CT in the ER? Transport?Both are next to the ER, if stable CT will come get the patient, if unstable the RN to go with - Does Phlebotomy draw labs or RNs draw? RN to draw off IV starts and phlebtomy available as a resource - Shifts & Scheduling: 12hr shifts w/ varied start times: 7a-7p, 9a-9p, 11a-11p, 2p-2a, 7p-7a, Manager does the scheduling based on needs and staff availability, will try to accommodate block scheduling based on need. - Weekend Requirements: Every other - Holiday Requirements: Every other - Floating Requirements: rare ability to float due to census and staffing, to task/ or as helping hands - How many shifts of unit/department specific orientation?: 1-2 shifts in the ER - Scrub Color/Dress Codeany color scrubs Radius Rule: 50 miles AND candidates may not be full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity. RTO needed upfront (7 or less days per 13 week contract). Additional RTO will not be approved, including after submissions. Updated: 2/12/2024
