Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) / Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to join our Emergency Room (ER) team for a 16-week contract in Bakersfield, CA. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in acute care and emergency nursing, with proficiency in Cerner, IV skills, and travel nursing experience.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide direct patient care in a fast-paced emergency room setting, managing both pediatric and adult patients.
• Perform basic EKG interpretation and administer appropriate care based on patient assessments.
• Collaborate with the ER team, including RNs, ER techs, and CNAs, to ensure high-quality care in both the Adult and Pediatric ER units.
• Administer medications, treatments, and IVs as required, adhering to best practices and protocols.
• Float between different areas within the ER as needed, being the first to float when required.
• Participate in a 12-hour shift rotation from 3 PM to 3 AM, with every other weekend (EOW) and holiday rotations.

Unit Details:

• Adult ER: 28 treatment areas (18 beds and 10 reclining chairs for moderate care).
• Pediatric ER: 5 beds and 5 reclining chairs.
• Staffing Ratios: ICU 1:2; Pediatrics 1:4; Adults 1:4; Procedural Sedation 1:1.
• Required Certifications for Adult ER: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS.
• Preferred Certifications for Pediatric ER: BLS, ACLS, PALS, ENPC or CPEN.
• EMR System: Cerner (Firstnet).

Qualifications:

• Current LPN/LVN license.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in an acute care setting, preferably in an Emergency Room.
• Proficiency with Cerner EMR system and IV skills.
• Basic EKG interpretation skills.
• Travel nursing experience is preferred.
• Experience with both pediatric and adult patient populations is required, as approximately 50% of the patient population is pediatric.
