Job Description
Department: ER RN *Certifications Required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC* NO CLINICAL INVOLVEMENT - Trauma Level? Level 4 Trauma Cener, Acute Stroke Ready Hospital - # of Beds/Trauma Bays: 9 Treatment Spaces + 2 Overflow beds + 2 Triage - On average, how many patients do you treat in the ER/day? 50-60 patients/24 hours - Nurse:Patient Ratios 1: 4-5 - Common diagnoses/Types of patients: Abdominal Pain, Stroke, Cardiac, Trauma, ENT, Respiratory, Etc - Experience or 'Must have' skills: Must have ER experience - Do you have a Fast Track? No - Do you have a separate Triage area?: We have 2 Triage Rooms in our Waiting Room, We do Bedside Triage when able & utilize the triage space when beds are full. Yes we allow travelers to do triage. - Do you have a separate holding area in the ER or are ER holds intermixed w/in the ER? ER holds would be in our main ER - Do you have separate Psych/seclusion rooms? NO - Is Security in-house 24/7? No in house security, Local PD is utilized if needed. - Common drips: Insulin, Diltiazem, Propfol, Fentanyl, Heparin, - ED Physician &/or Mid-Levels staffed? Physician coverage 24/7 in hours, Med Levels 12 hour shifts from 10a-10p - Is there a Charge Nurse on each shift? Charge on each shift, they do take patients - Are there nurse aids/Patient Sitters on each shift? CNA/Techs- they assist with ADL's, stocking, cleaning rooms, EKG's-- we have a tech from 1p-1a - Is RT in the ER 24/7? Do they do ABGs, breathing Tx, & EKGs? RT in in house 6a-6p then OC. They do ABG's, Breathing Treatments, EKGS, assist with intubated patients. If patient is intubated they stay within the hospital until transferred - RT Equipment? Are RNs required to do anything with these besides trouble shoot? Vents, Cpap, BiPap, High Flow- RT assists with all of this - Do you have Tele/Monitor Techs in the ER? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the Tele monitors? No Tele Monitor tech in the ED. We have Mind Ray & Zoll monitors, Nurses review their own strips - X-Ray or CT in the ER? Transport? Xray & CT in the hospital - CT tech in house at all times. They transport patients with the assistance of nursing if needed - Does Phlebotomy draw labs or RNs draw? Both- RN's will collect labs with IV starts, if no IV then phlebotomy can draw - Shifts & Scheduling: Rotating Shifts 7a-7p / 7p-7a / 8a-5p / 5p-5a - Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?: Self scheduling but Manager would help with traveler schedule, can review block scheduling if preferred by traveler - Weekend Requirements: 2-3/6 week schedule - Holiday Requirements: YES if holiday coverage needed - Is there call or a standby requirement? Traveler may be placed OC if low census - Floating Requirements: may be asked to float to MS/ICU or OB - Scrub Color/Dress Code: Black - How many shifts of unit/department specific orientation? Typically 2.5 days Radius Rule: 50 miles AND candidates may not be full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity within the past 12 months RTO needed upfront - Additional RTO will not be approved, including after submissions.
