Job Description
1 position 13-weeks $50.00/hour rate The hours are 7 scheduled shifts on and 7 scheduled shifts off. Wednesday-Wednesday hours are 5a-5:30p with the option to pick up 4-7am shifts for overtime. Job Description Summary The Phlebotomist collects (capillary and venipuncture) blood specimens frompatients of all ages, assists patients with non-blood collections and isresponsible for specimen integrity through accuracy of patient identification,specimen labelling, collection steps and specimen transport. This positionperforms occasional point-of-care patient testing such as glucose. Thephlebotomist provides exceptional customer service. Job Description Performs patient identification and specimen labeling according to standard operating procedures. Understands the phlebotomy processes and techniques in order to obtain quality blood specimens to ensure that correct decisions are made regarding specimen collection. Performs, interprets and reports point-of-care testing (e.g. glucose) and quality control. Processes laboratory and patient reports according to standard operating procedure, e.g. printing, recording, distributing, faxing, filing, and retrieving. Recognizes problems, takes appropriate action, documents problems and corrective action, and follows protocol to notify the Supervisor of problems in a timely manner so as not to jeopardize patient care. Actively communicates throughout the shift and manages priority requests in a courteous and timely manner to ensure effective department workflow. Follows up with STAT, ASAP, and Pre-op draws to ensure turnaround times are met. Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization. Additional specialty certification/training as preferred by the work area: Emergency Department: Basic Life Support (BLS)within 90 Days of Start Date
