The purpose of a unit profile is to provide an exceptional screenshot of the unit.  Profiles should include unique details to assist recruiting professional in effectively and efficiently identifying highly qualified staff.   Below you will find a data collection tool to help you identify essential data needed to complete your profile.

  • Number of Beds : 8 PICU, 12 Peds
  • Patient Ratios : 2:1 PICU & 4:1 Gen Peds
  • Unit staffing description- (unit secretaries and tech availability) : all RN staff & Child Life Specialist
  • Type of equipment : Critical Care monitoring equipment, IV pumps
  • Documentation system: Meditech
  • Scheduling requirements: self-schedule requests
  • Floating policy: resource & task only (no assignment) in Post-Partum/OB, ED, & adult critical care units For NICU assignment accepted if appropriate since closely resembles PICU population & competencies align
  • Patient Experience requirements: Bedside Shift Report, Names on care boards

  • Certifications: BLS, PALS

Hiring profile

Requested Skill Set: Pediatric critical care comfort & competency

Must have:  Pediatric critical care competency/comfort, BLS, PALS, at least 1 year of pediatric experience in critical care setting, conscious sedation competency/comfort

Advanced skills needed: comfort & competency with critical care monitoring, care of pediatric trauma patients

Procedures performed on unit:  chest tubes, intubation, conscious sedation, critical care monitoring, A-lines, Hi-Flo oxygen delivery

Certifications Required: BLS, PALS

Dress Code: (Required uniform)

  • Royal blue scrub pants, monogrammed scrub tops provided by hospital

Unit Guidelines/Policies: Please attach unit specific policies and guidelines.

  • Start time 0630 & 1830, good nursing culture environment – teamwork, positive attitude & inclusive behaviors an expectation

Awards/Recognition:  Please include anything that you would like prospective candidates to be aware of, such as, links to videos that feature the department, outstanding department/team awards.. 

  • Extremely good data on all quality metrics (CLABSI, CAUTI, MRSA, VAP, CDI), Long standing positive trends for service excellence to patients/families (90s on a consistent basis for 5 years)

  • Great work culture, inclusive environment (treat travelers as they are part of our staff while with us), invited to all unit activities/outings, support is tremendous by Child Life Specialist, 2 engaged Pediatric Intensivist that are supportive & appreciative of nursing profession, autonomy for nursing practice, Pet Therapy program (5 days a week), engaged Director with a DNP in nursing & more than 2 decades in pediatric specialty, nursing students from local colleges on unit, average years of nursing experience in department is 14 years.
